Jim Shella reports today that Governor Mitch Daniels is "keeping the door open" with respect to a 2012 presidential bid.
The Shella headline reads, "Daniels Changes Position on 2012." As much as I'd like to criticize the Governor for flip-flopping, I really can't. It would be too disingenuous because nobody believed him when he said he wasn't running.

I even started keeping a 2012 Presidency category, primarily having to do with Gov. Daniels. Only 7 or 8 items so far.
He'd better get the First "Lady" to clean up her act before the scrutiny begins.
Don't worry about his First Lady (in reality she's not his first and won't be his last,) after the Durham Brizzi shenanigans are exposed COMPLETELY Mitch Daniel's public service career will be finished.
Republicans on the national scene keep giving Daniels props for his fiscal ability. Wonder if they have though about how far off he was on estimating the cost of the war on terror when with the Bush administration. And how about revenue estimates in Indiana? The guy has it all backwards. He underestimates costs and overestimates revenue.
I wonder if Mrs. Daniels will agree to live in the White House or if she will find that neighborhood too ghetto for her also. [not that there is a snowball's chance in hell that Mitch would ever be elected]
I for one would not be in favor of a Daniels presidency. All of my relatives live outside of Indiana and I do not want to spend 4-8 years apologizing to them.
How do I hate Mitch? Let me count the ways. Tried to have First Steps and Head Start completely dismantled, and only let up when he was informed that this was against federal law and we'd lose federal tax dollars as a result. Kept on pushing for the I-69 extension, despite the hideous expenses involved with this little pork barrel project for southwest Indiana (oh, and the way it will sever old order Amish communities from each other and split Bloomington in half). Castrated IDEM and the Indiana EPA to keep his coal and utility interests happy. Chose a notoriously inept company when he decided to privatize welfare. And on and on and on and on... It's not about his being a Republican, it's about his being Mitch Daniels. I'd be willing to vote for Richard Lugar if he ever decided to run for governor and then for POTUS. Daniels? Kick him to the curb!
